I Don't Want to be an Average Coach
May 19, 2021I don't want to be an average coach... I want to be an outstanding, transformational, best of the best coach. That's why I've decided to apply for accreditation with the International Coaching Federation.
A question I'm asked A LOT by the coaches I work with is 'Do I need to get an ICF accreditation?'
The answer is No. You don't NEED to be accredited to be a great coach.
You don't need to be accredited to get your clients the results they crave.
But here are MY reasons for wanting the accreditation:
- The ICF accreditation demonstrates objectively that you're a coach who takes their professional development seriously. As a business coach & consultant, it's important for me to 'lead by example'.
- I believe whole-heartedly in Stephen R Covey's advice to keep 'sharpening the saw'. I want to make sure my coaching skills are TOP NOTCH - my clients deserve that.
- I know that investing in myself this way is aligned with the coaching I provide to my clients, and it’s hugely important to me that I’m always in alignment with my teaching.
- However strongly I believe in my abilities as a coach (and that belief in myself is STRONG), I also know that ‘I don’t know what I don’t know’. I never assume I know everything about a topic / skill / strategy etc... I WANT to keep learning, to keep uncovering new perspectives, to keep absorbing knowledge.
So, what are YOU doing to sharpen your saw?
How are you investing in yourself and your clients?
Is your ambition for your life and your business open, healthy, and robust, or do you feel self-conscious about wanting to be AMAZING at what you do? Do you hide your biggest hopes and dreams? Scared that the dream killers in your life will knock the wind from your sails?
I used to share my big dreams with my friends & family, then follow up immediately with laughter and a derogatory comment like ‘Ha I know what you’re thinking! Typical Gill!’ I would pre-empt their reaction and get in first by putting myself down. By shining a light on a something I’d previously failed to achieve.
Not any more…
Now, I have huge, ball-busting, life changing dreams that I’m happy to share with anyone who’ll listen.
Why? Because I no longer need validation.
I no longer need the person I’m sharing with to react in a particular way. If they take me seriously and are supportive… fantastic – that’s a great feeling. If they laugh… great – I’ve put a smile on someone’s face – it means nothing more than that to me.
I trust myself to make smart decisions for my life and my business. I want that for you too.
Book a call with me and let’s get you there.
