Happy New Year.
Unknown Speaker 0:02
Welcome to 2023 like I own 2023 Like I love it when people say that welcome to 2023. Like you're saying, This is my year. Welcome to IT come in.
Unknown Speaker 0:15
Ah, Happy New Year everyone. Obviously, I'm saying Happy New Year as I'm recording this before Christmas. It's not even really new here yet. For me, this is one of those strangely fake podcasting things. But I'm gonna say happy new year anyway, because you're listening to this on January the second. So you are my future.
Unknown Speaker 0:41
Anyway, I am recording this as another little shorty episode. Because at the end of the day, Christmas, New Year, none of you want to be sitting in a room listening around to really long podcast episodes that go very deep into strategic growth tips and marketing strategy. No, there's too much we've had too much going on. We're all slightly hungover. Still from Christmas and New Year. We don't want to deal with that stuff. So what I thought today was that I would just do a quick short episode and honour my commitment to bring you an episode every single week with a little shorty sharing my New Year's resolutions.
Unknown Speaker 1:32

Unknown Speaker 2:13
The thing is, I honestly believe when you're outstanding at what you do, there is no limit to what you can achieve. So are you ready to put our heads together and make it happen? Let's go.
Unknown Speaker 2:34
I know I know. Everyone is saying lately Oh, don't make New Year's resolutions. It's a really bad idea. We never stick to them. Yes, I know. But it's tradition. It is completely traditional for me to make New Year's resolutions. Like I say I'm making these in December. So when you're listening to this on January the second, I hope I haven't broken any of them by then already. But who knows. This is me, we cannot guarantee anything. But I'm gonna share with you what my now I have three new year's resolutions this year. My first one is the same one that I have every single year,
Unknown Speaker 3:11
lose weight get fit. And I have this resolution every year. And sometimes I'm more successful than others. You know, sometimes we make it out of January. But no one can really tell. Maybe this is the year that we go all the way. I don't know. I'm not stressed about it. But it's my New Year's resolution, lose weight get fit. So things I am doing towards that this is my plan anyway, maybe start actually using the gym membership that I've had for two years and tend to just visit once a year on the birthday of my membership, and probably just going a bit old school with my food and eating three times a day. That's probably all I need to do to be quite honest, because I think the reason that I put on and keep on weight is the snacks. So that's the first one that's a boring one the same every year who wants to talk about that. Anyway, second one is to write every day. Now that sounds like a steep goal to actually be writing every single day. But here's the thing I write every day anyway, in some form or another whether it's in a journal or
Unknown Speaker 4:28
in Asana, when I'm drafting a, I don't know show notes for this podcast, or whether it's writing a blog post or whether it's writing a caption for social media, you know, I am writing every day and I just want to bring a bit more intentionality to that. So my resolution is that I start by being a bit more mindful about when I'm writing and I have a really good writing practice at the moment. Anyway, I do try and write every
Unknown Speaker 5:00
Morning. So my resolution for this year for 2023 is to just bring a bit more intentionality around my writing, getting into a really good rhythm with it, maybe increasing the word count, if I'm writing for the book, or if I'm spending an hour with Becky, but my friend who we often will do a little writing session on Zoom, where we just sit and write in amicable silence, you know, whatever it is, maybe just increase my commitment to those things. Because that's something that's so important to me. And it's in my goals for 2023 is like, you know, to get the book published, so I had to get it. This is amazing insight I've had recently, to write a book, you have to actually write a lot. And I write earthshattering. Just want to share that with you, in case any of you are thinking of writing a book, it definitely involves a lot of writing. So that's my second new year's resolution. And then my third new year's resolution, and I talked about this one last week when we're talking about things to do between Christmas and New Year. My third resolution for 2023 is to be way more intentional with what I am consuming. I've got into some bad habits around mindlessly consuming Tiktok, and Instagram, and even LinkedIn to be quite honest, all of those kinds of mediums, substack, you know, I've really got a little bit frenetic about the amount I'm consuming of other people's content. And I'm pretty sure I've said this before on another episode, but you know, when we are consuming so much, and when we are a little indiscriminate with our consumption, it can actually be really detrimental to our production. So if you want to be creating really good content, then I would say step one, is to radically prune what you're consuming, and start consuming with a lot more intention. Yeah, like say, I've got a bad I think tiktoks The worst one. Oh, my God, you have to message me if anyone else gets sucked into Bradley Tiktok. Please message me and tell me I wouldn't mind but some of the things that I actually watch are so strange, like how they've ended up on my for you page, I just don't know. Like, I keep getting things like paternity court.
Unknown Speaker 7:44
Then I get sucked into those. I mean, honestly, what value is that in my life to watch other people take each other to court to find out who the father of their baby is? Literally no value to my life whatsoever? value to their lives. I get that. Not to mind? Why am I watching it? Why do I get sucked in? Which begs the question, doesn't it like, tick tock? For me it is the new TV. And I think it's a fantastic platform for creators who
Unknown Speaker 8:17
want to entertain and who
Unknown Speaker 8:23
want to be influencers in that kind of space. What I do question is for you know, I've had a lot of people have said to me, y'all, should I be on Tik Tok? Is that a good platform for me to be on? And my answer is always the same. It's It depends who your ideal customers are, and what their preferences are for consuming content. But also, what kind of content prompts them to put their hand in their pocket to pay for goods or services? Because even if your audience is on Tik Tok, so for example, I might be your ideal client, right? A business coach, maybe a business coach like me, is your perfect client. And I'm on tick tock. So yeah, I'm absolutely on tick tock particularly consuming it. Like I say, Mindlessly scrolling Tick, tock, do I consider tick tock to be a channel where I would make a buying decision in terms of a service?
Unknown Speaker 9:33
No, it isn't. That's not the kind of content I'm looking for from tick tock. So that would be my response is I think products. Absolutely. I like a good magnetic stick to both sides of the window cleaner, as much as the next person I'm very likely to get sucked into by one of those. But would I hire someone to provide me with a high ticket service?
Unknown Speaker 10:00
From a funny tick tock video, which I tend to get in my for you feed? No, I probably wouldn't. So I think the answer like it always is with marketing strategy is, who are your ideal clients? And what are their preferences, that's always going to be what you need to base your decisions on, when it comes to where you should be for marketing your business. So yeah, but anyway, back to my New Year's resolution. So the third one is around that consumption piece, I am going to get way more intentional about that, in terms of what I read, what I watch what I listen to. And for me, it's also about introducing a bit of balance as well, because I've got into a real business book rut, you know, I consume a lot of business books, which is great, because I'm writing a business book, and I talk about business on this podcast, and I'm a business coach. So quite naturally, I want to be abreast of the best practices of who are the big players who are writing really good stuff about business, of course, I want to read that stuff. But I do think there's room for a bit of diversity in my reading list. And I think I need to start maybe researching some different authors, but also maybe some different genres. In a maybe I need to rediscover a fiction writing, you know, I used to read a tonne of fiction, which I just don't anymore, because I'm reading so many business books. So you know, that's something I want to explore this year. As a part of my kind of self care and relaxation. Allowing my brain to switch off from business and maybe reading a bit of fiction would be a really good thing I think. So those are my three resolutions. I would love you to share with me what yours are. Email me info at Gill moakes.com Tell me what your New Year's resolutions are for literally no other reason than I am incredibly nosy listen Happy New Year, normal business to be resumed in next week's episode. But for now, another short episode just to wish you a happy new year. And I hope that 2023 brings you absolutely everything that you want. Okay, bye for now.
