Sandra (00:00.66)
wait.
Gill Moakes (00:00.664)
When I say your name, I always say Sandra Westein, but is it Westein?
Sandra (00:05.683)
Best time.
Gill Moakes (00:07.244)
Yeah, I thought so. Vestein.
Sandra (00:09.575)
Rest time, yes. Well, this is, you have to cut this off because it's on the record.
Gill Moakes (00:15.949)
No, you can just go again. It'll just put it as two separate things. are we already recording now? Yeah? Okay, perfect. Yeah. You can just edit this off the front. That's fine. Okay. All right.
Sandra (00:19.184)
Yeah. Yeah. What? Yeah? Okay. Yeah. Alright.
Gill Moakes (00:31.53)
Welcome, welcome to Veragoodo Dreaming. Yes, I'm taking over.
Sandra (00:40.861)
I've given up everything. I've given up the lead and gave it to Jill.
Gill Moakes (00:43.311)
Thank you. Thank you for taking over. For those who don't know me, I'm Jill Mokes. I'm a business coach. I'm based in the UK and I help female founders play bigger in their lives and their businesses. And Sandra has let me come and do a takeover, a friendly takeover. Friendly takeover.
Sandra (01:05.597)
Ha
Sandra (01:08.883)
Friendly takeover, yeah.
Gill Moakes (01:12.149)
So welcome to my Heads Together podcast audience, but also hello, Farragudodreaming podcast audience. So exciting. What we thought would be a really fun thing to do is, because I think as podcast hosts, we're so used to doing the interviewing, aren't we? We're used to being the ones that are asking the questions and finding out all the juicy goss and...
Sandra (01:23.453)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (01:41.065)
we thought it'd be really fun to turn the tables on you so that your audience out here in the gorgeous Algarve get to find out a bit more about you and what you're up to because you're you've got a lot of exciting stuff going on right
Sandra (01:57.591)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and it's getting even more excited because every time, because that's what the Algarve does to you. You get much more inspiration because your surroundings are different. So you just go along with that and the surroundings make you get your flow much more. It's going faster, it's more intense.
And so the ideas that I have already implemented in my businesses, I got them here. So not in the Netherlands where I used to live, but I got them here. here everything changed for me personally, but also for my business. So I started here the Federico di Dreams Workations. And I also added to that
Gill Moakes (02:37.351)
Mmm.
Sandra (02:53.607)
the location finder so that people, businesses or who want to photoshoot or something else, or a promotional activity, they can turn to me and I will look for the right location, for the location that's perfect for the thing that they want to do and just guide them through that and arrange everything for them. So it's not just the locations where I get entrepreneurs here and I arrange everything for them.
and organize activities and stuff, but also for companies who want to do promotional activities. And that's going really well. so I'm finding out, I'm learning more about me and what I can do as well. So it's not...
Gill Moakes (03:32.245)
Mmm, I bet it is.
Gill Moakes (03:39.608)
There's something... Sorry, go ahead.
Sandra (03:42.993)
No, no, no. Don't. You go.
Gill Moakes (03:44.175)
It's just that before we hit record, we were talking about this, weren't we? And I was just saying, because I co -hosted a retreat in, that's how we met, was when I was co -hosting a retreat in the Algarve, in Farragudo last year. And we were just saying before we hit record that there is something special about that place. There really is something very special.
Sandra (04:06.941)
There is. Yeah.
Gill Moakes (04:09.645)
And you mentioned something which was about that light. And I remember that really vividly. There's a special kind of light that just kind of, I know it makes you feel different. And to your point about that finding service that you're doing, I could imagine that is going so well because that for businesses who want to harness that specialness of the area, having someone on the ground who knows where the best spots are.
Sandra (04:13.329)
Yeah. Yeah.
Gill Moakes (04:37.548)
The best places, the best photographers, the best restaurants, you know, that's invaluable, isn't it?
Sandra (04:43.079)
Yeah, and I did that because I did it once for a real estate agent. And then I got another client from the Netherlands called me and they wanted to do a photoshoot for a suncream brand. And while I was talking to her, already ideas were popping up in my head because then I immediately knew just by talking to her, this is the perfect location, that is the perfect location.
And it was just magic. It was really magic.
Gill Moakes (05:17.088)
I think you're really good at that kind of thing too. Like you are a really great combination of someone, I think, of someone who is creative so you can absolutely get someone's vision but you also have that practical side of someone who can do the deal and get the, get it organized and get everything and that, you know, for someone who's organizing an event or
Sandra (05:38.877)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (05:43.801)
you know, so whether that's retreats or like you say, photo shoots, that kind of thing. That combination is just brilliant. I think it's one of the many things as a multi -passionate entrepreneur that you are, that you are absolutely born to do.
Sandra (05:57.907)
Yeah.
Well, ever since you called me a multi -passion entrepreneur, I've been using it. And people say, what is that? What is that? Except in short, I do too much.
Gill Moakes (06:06.648)
Good! Because it's exactly what you are.
Gill Moakes (06:16.527)
No, I think you do perfect amount. Yeah. Or you could look at it and say, you know what, I just don't limit myself. I don't limit myself. If something feels right, I'm gonna do it.
Sandra (06:17.203)
Or I do a lot.
Sandra (06:26.407)
Yep. Yep.
Yeah, no, that's great. But that's also how I feel because, you know, I started with I saw it as a business manager and I have developed myself and also my business into this. Well, the expertise now lies on not the like the virtual assistant I used to be like supporting entrepreneurs in their daily business, but really focus now on.
social media management and website restyling. that is something... Yeah, that's... You know, I... Social media management, I already did that. And I also did a training for that so that I just have a diploma and I have a degree. And then implement this also for my clients because I want my clients to have the best of me.
Gill Moakes (07:04.862)
Ooh, tell us more about that!
Sandra (07:27.781)
and also the best of my knowledge. And then I'm also, and next to that, I'm also a personal power coach. And I use the personal power method. I recently, I got my English license. So I can, I'm licensed to do that here as well in the Algarve. And then...
Gill Moakes (07:50.265)
I have to at this point say that I have been on the receiving end of that personal power at service and it is bloody phenomenal. just, Lauren and I both and Alicia, all three of us just loved it. It was so interesting. And you know, we still refer back to that now. And you know, I often refer back to the resources you gave us afterwards. was so...
Sandra (07:56.637)
Yes, you have! Yeah! Yeah!
Sandra (08:06.279)
Yeah.
Sandra (08:15.431)
Yeah, well that's what you should do.
Gill Moakes (08:18.164)
Yeah, it's so interesting.
Sandra (08:21.095)
Yeah, so because you know, three years ago I did my first personal power test and then the color red was my dominant color, was my power color. But also I had red as a desire color. So I was all into the red color family, but I really, because that's the point you have to embrace it in a way.
and implement it in your personal life and in your business life. So I restyled my personal and my business branding. I created a new logo, I used the new colors, I created a new website and used these colors as well. But now, three years later, and I really used those colors to get to my desire. And now, three years later,
Gill Moakes (09:17.455)
Mmm.
Sandra (09:19.249)
Because the founder of the personal power method said you have to do the test again because you have gone through so many changes in the last three years. You moved to Portugal, you just invented yourself again and you're just a different person than you were three years ago when you were still living in the Netherlands and going up and down to the Algarve. So I did the test again and yeah.
Gill Moakes (09:27.074)
I can see that.
Sandra (09:48.975)
I have new colors now because my desire has moved now so it's changed so that's there's another color attached to that but also my power has changed and she said you can really see that you used your power colors to get to where you are now
Gill Moakes (10:08.174)
course.
Sandra (10:19.385)
And that is really what I did. So you have to do that because if you use it right, if you wear it, you have it in your surroundings, you have it in your office or in your house or everywhere, just implement it and try to come as close to your desire as you possibly can. So I did that. And then I was suddenly, was from here, I was there. So I'm making, I'm moving my hands, nobody can see.
So I'm getting from 80 to 100 and still higher. So I thought okay, well let's use this personal power method in a way that if you want to change something, if you want to do like a website restyling, use your power colors and then go from here. I have this new service now and
Gill Moakes (10:49.614)
Don't worry, I do air quotes quite a lot on the podcast. It's always helpful.
Sandra (11:19.131)
I use the personal power method as a canvas to and then people do the test and then you move on to your social media, how to implement this and change your branding and all that kind of stuff and also the website restyling. And that's working. next, it, yeah.
Gill Moakes (11:43.233)
it makes so much sense, it makes so much sense that one would feed the other.
Sandra (11:48.007)
Yeah, when I thought of that and I thought, well, okay, why didn't I think of that before? But there's a time for everything, of course.
Gill Moakes (11:53.507)
But yeah, of course. I do think I... Sorry, go on.
Sandra (11:57.317)
Yeah, so I did it.
No, I did it for myself three years ago and I thought why didn't I think of that before to do it for my clients as well. So now I've done that. So I've launched it this week and it's just great. And I already did it for two clients and they were really happy because they said, these colors, everybody is talking about these colors. And that's what I was aiming for.
Gill Moakes (12:16.684)
my goodness.
Sandra (12:30.929)
because people have to notice that there is a change. Because they don't see just a change in the appearance, but also in the person itself.
Gill Moakes (12:35.96)
Yeah, absolutely.
Gill Moakes (12:44.441)
think that's the key, isn't it? Is that good branding, it doesn't start with the colour palette. It doesn't start with just picking colours you like aesthetically. You know, it absolutely starts with going deep into who you are as a business owner or as a personal brand. It goes into what you value, what you stand for. And I think, you know, that's what's most interesting for me about you.
Sandra (12:53.105)
No, it doesn't.
Sandra (13:07.709)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (13:13.901)
what you do is that it's a deeper process. It's not a shallow kind of, let's pick a few colors we like. It's not about that. But it does make, it means that those final colors that you're then gonna see through into your business brand as well are gonna absolutely be aligned with who you are.
Sandra (13:21.435)
No. No, it's not about that.
Sandra (13:41.735)
Yeah, and also be aligned with the person you want to be. Because normally you evolve. You change as a as you grow older through the experience you have, through everything. And so you change as a person and with that also your business changes. As it should be. As it should be.
Gill Moakes (13:42.786)
And that's what it's all about.
Gill Moakes (13:51.082)
Right, because that's the process you did. That's the process you did.
Gill Moakes (14:08.46)
Right. As it should.
Sandra (14:11.185)
because it did with me. So I'm just using my own experience to help other entrepreneurs do the same. Because I am the living proof that things work.
Gill Moakes (14:26.659)
I just, you know what, it's funny isn't it? Because I always say to my clients, like your best clients are the people who are where you were a couple of years ago. Those are your best clients. Because those are the people that you can really mentor as well as serve in whatever way you serve them. You know, they can actually look to you and say, okay, I can see she's done that, that makes sense.
Sandra (14:38.397)
Yeah. Yeah.
Sandra (14:48.36)
Yeah.
Sandra (14:55.752)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (14:55.927)
And I think that's exactly what you're doing. And you know what, Sandra, I see that as what you do very naturally whenever you do anything in your business. Because when you think about Farragudo Dreams, it's for people who are where you were when you wanted to be there in the Algarve and experience it and be part of it. So I think that's super interesting. I think it's what makes for great businesses.
Sandra (15:05.448)
Yeah.
Sandra (15:25.245)
Yeah, and that's because I think authenticity is really important and I'm just me. I'm not following some handbook or something. It's just me and my experience.
Gill Moakes (15:41.133)
No.
Gill Moakes (15:44.737)
you don't limit yourself, one thing I really love about you is that you don't limit yourself, you don't listen to voices who say you you've got to pick a lane or you know you can only do this or this. You're very multi -passionate, you're very, no you know what if it feels right to me that's what I'm gonna do and I really love that.
Sandra (15:55.357)
Yeah, that's right.
Sandra (16:05.223)
Yeah, yeah. Well, we talked about this before, of course. And I followed also, I had a business coach where I started my business eight years ago. And they all say you have to pick a niche. And I thought, why do I pick a niche? Because, you know, I can do so much. And then you get, but then you follow the program and well, you have to.
Gill Moakes (16:09.567)
Mmm.
Gill Moakes (16:20.14)
Yeah, yeah.
Sandra (16:35.207)
You know, you have to pick that niche otherwise you cannot go further in the program. So I always thought that was holding somebody else's program, that's holding me behind. And through the years I noticed that there is a group of business coaches and they all use the same handbook. They all have the same questions, they all have the same rules. it's always mandatory that you...
Gill Moakes (16:40.972)
in someone else's program.
Gill Moakes (16:46.948)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (16:58.744)
Mm
Sandra (17:04.359)
have a niche. And I was thinking, why?
Gill Moakes (17:06.603)
Yeah and the thing is there are some advantages to having a niche don't get me wrong there are some big advantages if if it's right for you it makes marketing much easier if you could niche but you know what that's only okay if that feels right for you because here's what I found as well is that we all do have a niche whether we realize it or not
Sandra (17:13.043)
Of course, of course it makes things much easier. Yeah.
Gill Moakes (17:29.761)
It's just that for some people, their niche isn't the kind of work they do or the industry they work in. It's more about the values they hold and it's about working with people whose values are aligned with their own. And I think if you think about your business, that's going to be a common thread across all of these different things that you do is that your values and who you are and what you stand for, they never change.
Sandra (17:44.029)
Yeah, true.
Sandra (17:55.793)
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (17:59.234)
but you apply them in different areas, luckily for your clients. Yeah, yeah.
Sandra (17:59.708)
No, that's true.
Yeah. But I think I've developed my own niche during the years. Because you start at the beginning, you have a very broad insight and you have a broad view of everything and say, I can do everything. But then you go, it's like a funnel, you go into the smaller bits. So now I'm on my way to be...
Gill Moakes (18:12.098)
Yes.
Gill Moakes (18:24.92)
Mm.
Sandra (18:32.447)
an expert on the social media and on the website restyling using the personal power method. So I combine the two things. Yeah, so I'm on my way to do that and I'm using everything I have ever learned, everything that I know. I'm using experiences that I have with other people, but also the experience I had with
Gill Moakes (18:38.382)
Mm
Sandra (19:00.701)
with other business coaches. And I think that's making my business more unique, I think. And also working from the Algarve, it's unique on itself, of course, because I can invite my clients here.
Gill Moakes (19:02.786)
Right? Yeah.
Gill Moakes (19:10.667)
I agree with you.
Gill Moakes (19:16.271)
Stop trying to give me life envy. Yes. I get life envy every time I talk to someone.
Sandra (19:22.001)
Nobody's strong, nice. Yeah. He just come here, you know, you know where I am.
Gill Moakes (19:27.564)
Sloppy.
Yeah, well, I am absolutely going to, you know, we've talked before about doing workations and things like that. That is absolutely something I'm doing next year. And also for unapologetic retreats, I could see us being back in the Algarve at some point. yeah, 100%, 100%.
Sandra (19:46.813)
Yeah, and we talked about collaborations as well, so like a collaboration between you and me. And because I love to do that because, yeah, because you can learn from each other and you can help each other. And I do that also for a fair to good dreams.
Gill Moakes (19:51.671)
Yes!
I would love that, you know. I would.
Yeah, definitely. And also, I really think a collaboration would be lovely because one thing, when you've been talking about this combination of the power colours and the website refresh and how that applies to someone's kind of personal brand and business brand, I can just see the power of that so
Sandra (20:09.299)
Sorry.
Sandra (20:23.187)
Mm
Gill Moakes (20:30.515)
strongly but what I also know is that there is enormous power in being with you in person to do the colour assessments and I could see that being a beautiful thing to bring people together to do. So it's almost like they come and do this in person but and then they go off and and you you finish off the work for them with their website but I think that would be a lovely thing to do and we'll throw in a bit of business coaching with it as well obviously.
Sandra (20:32.669)
Yeah.
Sandra (20:41.383)
Mm -hmm.
Sandra (20:45.736)
Yeah.
Sandra (20:53.139)
Yeah, well that's... Yeah, yeah! No, I think that's a brilliant idea actually. Yeah, we should do that. We should do it. Because you can combine colors with so much. It's not just you or it's not just your business. You can use your colors for so many things. You can combine it with other specialties.
Gill Moakes (21:02.793)
Mmm. We should definitely do that.
Yeah.
Gill Moakes (21:15.715)
Anna, you know what?
It's also colors, this is gonna sound really crazy, if Lauren, if you're listening to this, I know you will understand where I'm coming from with this. So Lauren's the incredible brand strategist and designer and brand coach. And she has been working with me for ages on my brand. only because I get so stuck with color. I really struggle with it. And it's that I know that it's...
You know, it's not everything, but it is important to me. And, you know, she's been so patient with me as we've kind of navigated this and she's just been so helpful. But it is definitely something I struggle with and I can't be alone in that. There must be other people like me who really struggle with owning the power of their colors.
Sandra (21:52.659)
Yep, it is.
Sandra (22:16.199)
Yeah, well I know that is because that is difficult because I did have like I said before I did the test again and now I my power color is a color I would never never never choose because now It's well, I'm now in the yellow family for vanilla and I have now also I'm still in the red
Gill Moakes (22:30.474)
Really? I need to know what it is.
Gill Moakes (22:41.281)
Yeah.
Sandra (22:45.789)
family but it's not as dominant as it was but now also it's not a fireman red or a coral red now I have a Bordeaux red you know like the wine
Gill Moakes (22:59.387)
so that really kind of, yeah, that really rich, that's a really confident color.
Sandra (23:03.677)
So, and there you can see, yeah, no, but it's also because the yellow colors, they, because I understand, I understand because the meaning of the color yellow, I really, really, really understand because it gives you the power to fight for what you want and that you are determined to get there. So it gives you...
Strength and you and that you hold on to it and that you really believe in that And so I understand but the color itself Really because I hate it. I hate it when somebody gives me some flowers. I hate some flowers
Gill Moakes (23:38.86)
interesting.
Gill Moakes (23:47.787)
Interesting, right?
Sandra (23:49.843)
My husband wants a yellow card. Never. Never. Never gonna happen.
Gill Moakes (23:55.539)
but there's something about it for you that in your in power colors and potentially your website where it's important like red was when it was doing its job of moving you to where you are now
Sandra (24:02.535)
Yeah. Yeah. Like Red was. So I need to use... Yeah, so I need to use and start using it more because what people normally see and what I also see, that it is already here. You already have it in your surroundings or something. And because before I did the test, like two days before I did the test,
Gill Moakes (24:28.024)
Mm.
Sandra (24:32.819)
I needed some some some maps of some folders and so I went here to the Staples and what did I buy? Vanilla folders I didn't even know I didn't even know and I bought and I never buy blue because there's also blue in there and I never buy blue and I bought a blue dress
Gill Moakes (24:46.412)
my god. That's...
Sandra (25:01.725)
Why? I don't know. There is something then that's just... It's in your body. I don't know. In your mind.
Gill Moakes (25:08.344)
But you're so open to it as well. You're so open to it. You believe in it. So subconsciously you're just stepping into it. You're trusting. So is this about trusting it as well? It's a little bit about putting your trust in it. And because especially if it's a color you don't naturally gravitate to, it's about putting your trust in why that might be important, why it might be a powerful color for you.
Sandra (25:15.047)
Yep. Yep.
Yeah, yeah, it is. Yeah.
Sandra (25:28.369)
Yeah.
Sandra (25:32.381)
Yeah, well I remember our session with Lauren and she said, I hope it's not lavender and it was lavender.
Gill Moakes (25:42.071)
And it was Lavender. Wasn't that funny? And she will be the first one to say that since then, Lavender has featured every night. You know, it will be whether it's in the flowers in her garden or it will be just there are little places where it shows itself. And now she's like, mm hmm. Yeah, I know why that.
Sandra (25:55.335)
Yeah.
Sandra (26:01.799)
Yeah, because I always ask when I get the response like Lauren or myself Is there nothing in this color that's already there? So check if it's already there and she said my mother planted lavender in my garden And that was so funny, that was so funny and I have the same thing because I had that with the vanilla folders and my blue dress and you know the new color of this winter is Bordeaux
Gill Moakes (26:19.65)
Yeah, I know, right?
Gill Moakes (26:32.81)
Is it? There we go.
Sandra (26:33.299)
So it's a warm red. Well, I buy this brand here in Portugal. It's called Parfois. And they send newsletters and they say, okay, the new winter color is Bordeaux. And I was really, wow, this is something you cannot imagine that this is happening because it's so, you know, it's just floating into your life and it's just very natural and organic.
Gill Moakes (26:41.272)
Mm
Gill Moakes (26:49.145)
Wow.
Gill Moakes (27:03.426)
Yes, I was just going to say it is very organic, but also I think it is. That's why this is so powerful is that it becomes this sort of kind of like a background undercurrent that that's helping you.
Because I would do loads of work on mindset. So I know the power of harnessing your mind. And if you have a goal you want to achieve, so much of that is around mindset. Because our mindset is what determines how we take action. And I think this is almost like what you do is this, it's a foundation of that too. It's almost like a helping hand to your mindset is to have these power colors in your life.
Sandra (27:50.183)
Yeah, yeah, Yeah. But you know why you're saying this? My head is spinning. My head is spinning.
Gill Moakes (27:53.356)
Yeah. Ew. Do you know what? It's made me want to go back and redo mine. I know, right? Yeah. This always happens when we have conversations, isn't it? I always, we could do this and we could do that. Yeah, I love it.
Sandra (28:07.389)
Yeah.
Sandra (28:12.199)
Yeah, but that is a good thing because when you're open to that, to collaborations, to other people's expertise and just be able to share that and make it into one big thing, then it's amazing. Then you're, I think then you're on the right path because that makes you so much stronger. And there's like, there's a saying, There's a saying, you go alone and then you go slow. If you go together, you go more quickly or something, something like that.
Gill Moakes (28:26.816)
Ugh.
Gill Moakes (28:32.014)
Absolutely right.
Gill Moakes (28:40.493)
I think it's go fast, go alone and move fast, go together and go far. think that's what it is. Something like that. Something like that, yeah, yeah. Well, I would like to go far with you for sure.
Sandra (28:48.955)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, something like that, yeah. Yeah, that really applies. It applies to...
Yeah, so this is, well in short this is what the Algarve has brought me. This is really my change, I changed my life and I was open to change my life. And that made my life much more interesting, more relaxed and I'm more aware of who I am. And that's really, I would love for everybody to have that experience.
Gill Moakes (28:59.522)
Mmm, yeah.
Gill Moakes (29:05.912)

Gill Moakes (29:34.122)
love that. I love that. I want to finish with a question for you. What are you most looking forward to about the future? Your future in Faragudo.
Sandra (29:39.475)

Sandra (29:46.035)
What I look forward most to seeing around me the people I've worked with grow, that they have grown. And then I'm just there looking at them proud, content and just be...
Gill Moakes (30:08.9)
that's so lovely.
Sandra (30:14.801)
Happy and also what I really look forward to. That's something different. I applied for the Algarve Business Awards.
for Very Good Dreams. For Very Good Dreams, not yet, well, the 11th of September, I know if I'm in the semi -finals. So I've applied for Very Good Dreams and for Business Manager. So I really, really, really hope so. That is in the near future. That's really what I'm looking forward to. But the near, near, near future. So it's like this year.
Gill Moakes (30:26.286)

And for the future in maybe two years or in five years I really hope that I stay healthy here, I can keep living here in the Old Garth, I run my business still like I'm doing now and maybe even better. Of course it's getting better. And just be, just be me and be in the moment and live.
Gill Moakes (31:19.464)
